Vienna Westbahnhof

Vienna Westbahnhopf is effectively a  shopping centre with a station attached. Located in the 15th district, it's a well laid out station with a simple main concourse and a 3 floor shopping centre. It's on borrowed time as the nearby South Station is being modernised, becoming Central Station, and this will take many of the inter-city services away from Westbahnhopf. You can see the work (and get a great view of the city) from a wooden panoramic tower that has been constructed. But in the meantime, you can have a whole make-over in the shops and hairdressing salons of Westbahnhof.

Finding Your Way Around

The main concourse is divided into a lower and an upper level that is reached by two flights of stairs and escalators. The hall is flooded with daylight due to large, high windows that are built into the East and West facades above the platforms. The ticket windows are installed beneath the upper hall.

Shops and  Bars

There are many shops in the station and the lower floors, and several cafes and restaurants.

There are 24hr left luggage lockers and a manual storage option.

A cashpoint is on the right on the ground floor of the shopping centre.

The station is at the top of Mariahilfer Strasse, which leads directly to the city centre. It's a 30 min walk and so it's much easier to take the excellent U-Bahn (lines 3 or 6) which takes about 10 minutes.

Taxis: The simple taxi rank is immediately to the left of the platforms, which are at street level- useful if you're running late for a train. It costs about €15-20 to the city centre.

Disabled Access

There are disabled facilities and lifts. The platforms are on ground level. Staff are also available to help.
