Fairytale streets, modern shopping and cultural charm
Leave London in the early afternoon. The Eurostar sets off from the beautifully refurbished St Pancras station, speeds through the countryside and takes just twenty minutes to dash through the Channel Tunnel and emerge in France. The journey is deceptively fast- the comfortable train rockets trough Kent, beneath the channel and emerges in France in the time it takes to queue at an airport.
Check-in is smooth and simple, up to 30 minutes before departure, and there is a lounge with wifi and plug sockets, shops including WH Smith and Costa Coffee and comfortable seating in the departure lounge, with an escalator which delivers passengers directly to the platform. There is a buffet card on board, on an executive upgrade means food service at your table, a quieter carriage, more spacious seats and a plug socket and free wifi. After just over two hours, passengers alight in Brussels after a quiet, relaxed journey.
Days 1 - 3
Spend the following morning wandering in the old town, and shopping in the beautiful Galerie De La Reine, a covered gallery of exquisite shops. Have lunch at one of the little bistros that cluster around the Grand Place , before an afternoon of sightseeing- several of the old guildhalls in the Grand Place are now museums and galleries. Walk up to Place Sablon, a chic area of private galleries and boutiques, before dinner at spendid modern restaurant Kwint.
On Sunday morning take the tram to the Atomium, and admire this astonishing 1950s comic-book structure and the view back into Brussels from the highest sphere. Back in town, enjoy lunch at Art Nouveau bar Cirio.
Return to Eurostar in the afternoon for the journey home - again relax in the comfort of Eurostar and be back in London in time to catch your onward connections.
You could extend your stay till Monday, with dinner at unique Michelin-starred restaurant Comme Chez Soi, followed by a morning shopping for souvenirs in the old town.
