LINDENHOFKELLER

This cosy little Swiss restaurant in the old town is the sort of place where day turns to night over a bottle of red, and where you may start off as friends or colleagues, but by the brandy, you’re stroking one another’s hands in the candlelight. It’s charming, relaxed and serves excellent food. White linen tablecloths, old, uneven wooden floors and candlelight flickering in the old stone archways of the cellar are perfect in Winter. In Summer, there’s a very pretty courtyard, where diners can sit.

The staff are mainly English-speaking, and service is warm and efficient. Some Swiss restaurants edge towards ‘hearty farmer’ presentation, with no attempt at finesse. Here, the food is as pretty to look at as it’s delicious. Sample dishes include the house speciality, veal, octopus carpaccio, potato rosti and a divine chocolate torte- the wine list, too, is extensive.
