The hotel first opened in 1890, and was fully refurbished 120 years later, in 2010. 27 spacious, comfortable rooms are deecorated in a modern Alpine style or there are three exclusive suites. The elegant Queen Victoria Restaurant, which serves fresh, regional dishes, was named in honour of the monarch, who, impressively, rode up the Pilatus on horseback in 1868. Composer Richard Wagner was also one of the Kulm Hotel's past guests. 'Large rooms each with breath taking views, good storage, big bathrooms, and rooms were very warm and cosy at night,' he noted, happily. But while the hotel is effortlessly chic and relaxing, the view is what brings guests up the mountain- and the promise of lying in bed, watching the sun rise above the Alps, and set fire to the lake below.
