Welcome to Blaenau Ffestiniog
Blaenau Ffestiniog is a small town in Snowdonia dominated by its slate mine. It's also the terminus for the Ffestiniog Steam Railway from Porthmadog and the mainline service from Llandudno. The town sits neatly beneath the surrounding hills and the view as you drop into Blaenau on the A470 from Betws-Y-Coed is quite astonishing. The slate glistens black in the light and resembles the set of a Doctor Who episode.
The Llechwedd slate cavern museum is situated on the edge of town. http://www.llechwedd-slate-caverns.co.uk
